The Day You Stop Trying, is The Day You Stop Living

Since the action started on lap one, I guess the recount should as well! Todays' race was held in Keerbergen, with a nice 22 lap circuit being laid out through the main street of town, and into the residential area. Once the peleton got under way, there was a bit of jostling for position before the first sharp corner. Exiting this corner, British rider Brad Johnston attacked - leaving behind him a field of half hearted chasers and half asleep riders... But soon he was reeled in, and this is where I made my move.

Once Johnston was caught by the bunch, I immediately launched an attack giving it 110% to get a decent gap as fast as possible. My only problem being that I'd never ridden the circuit before! I was hitting corners way to fast (but just fast enough) and really worried some of the track officials! In all seriousness, soon I had a group of 11 riders join me in my escape - we stayed clear for 13 / 22 laps but I was most worried in the first 4 laps of our escape... we were FLYING!!! Touching on 54km/h might sound fun, but really it wasn't.

This lead group eventually went on to sprint for the win, but alas I wasn't there. My body gave in with only 9 laps to go - I was getting sick, seeing spots and getting dizzy. As far as "hardest session on a bike" this was easily it!

I finished somewhere in the top 50's I believe - which seems totally irellevant when I was riding for my first top 15... There's always next time.
