Having moved to Melbourne exactly one year ago, I found time to look back on the start of my adventures - the day I rolled up to my apartment, and looked up to the top floor and then to my Dad. "How the hell do we get the couch up there!?" was all I could think. A lot has happened since then, so here's a brief overview plus some very exciting news about my new job and what lies ahead for me...
I started in the Cycling industry at the beginning of the year, at The Freedom Machine. I learnt first hand about bike fittings and the incorporation of technology into this process. Having access to such a wide range of customers allowed me to quickly learn the in's and out's of bike fitting, and the benefits to ones cycling. After some time there, I was forced to move along to another part time job at another bike store (somewhat not worth mentioning!).
A brief spell there saw me learn surprisingly quickly on how to manage a business, and how not to manage staff. Always one for learning from others, I made the most of the circumstances with the presumption that my time and patience would be limited at the store. Meanwhile, I applied elsewhere, keen to expand my ever growing knowledge of the industry. I ended up at Vuelta Cycles and Spin Studio!
A fantastic group of guys, with huge business ideas and an eye for opportunity - I found the presence of 'business savvy' to be almost overwhelming. Coming up with a business idea of my own, I then arranged meetings with the Director/s and management and solidified what was at first a daunting prospect. With the need to earn more money, I then took up on an offer from another industry related business with by far, the most potential to grow. Business idea now on hold... But still there, and ready to go at the drop of a hat.
To the Wattbike Performance Studio - using the Wattbike training bikes, backed by both British Cycling, Cycling Australia as well as Cyclesport Victoria and multiple professional cycling teams; the Wattbike Performance Studio was an offer I could not, and did not refuse! Working side-by-side with an ex professional cyclist, I'm learning first hand how to network with other business' as well as expand our existing database of cliental. As well as becoming more involved in the expansion of the business, I'm also helping train the clients on a daily basis - something which has led me to conjure up a new outlay of my future, and any possible ideas on choosing a course at University. So there you have it, a year of growth in... five or so paragraphs.
My three month ban from racing is also almost over - so finally I will be back on the bike, and back on the front at SKCC Criteriums for the Total Rush boys.
